Our Story

From a small gathering to a thriving community

In 1998, a handful of local Muslim families came together with a simple dream: a place to pray, learn, and raise their children upon authentic Islam.

What began as modest weekly gatherings grew, by the grace of Allah, into a full community centre serving downtown Edmonton. Through dedication and sincere intention, the Downtown Islamic Association became a cornerstone for worship, education and welfare — always holding firm to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as understood by the righteous predecessors.

In 2023, we proudly launched our dedicated Sahaba Youth Centre to invest in the next generation — ensuring our youth inherit not just a building, but a living legacy of faith.

Community Voices

What the mosque means to us

I've prayed here for over fifteen years. Sahaba raised my children upon Islam — it's truly our second home.

AAbu Abdullah
Long-time member

When I reverted, the brothers here welcomed me like family. I never felt alone for a moment.

DDaniel (Dawud)
New Muslim

The youth centre gave my son purpose and good friends. As a mother, I'm endlessly grateful.

إِنَّمَا يَعْمُرُ مَسَاجِدَ اللَّهِ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ

"The mosques of Allah are only maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day."
